ARC: US travel agency air ticket sales drop nearly three percent

Travel agency air ticket sales down in September

Airlines Reporting Corp. (ARC) reported today that the consolidated dollar value of airline tickets sold by U.S.-based travel agencies decreased nearly 4 percent this year as compared to 2015, totaling $67 billion vs. $70 billion.

September 2016 ticket sales were down 2.6 percent to $7.1 billion against the same month last year. Ticket transactions were up 4.9 percent at 13.8 million in 2016 vs. 2015.


Electronic Miscellaneous Document (EMD) sales comprised $32.4 million of the year-to-date sales vs. $12 million in 2015, and $5.7 million of the September 2016 sales as compared to $1.9 million in September 2015. EMD transactions increased 330.8 percent to 500,497 so far in 2016 vs. 116,173 in 2015.
