New airgusto restaurant service on airberlin long-haul flights

High-quality food from trendy local restaurants – served above the clouds:  airberlin and the Dutch start-up company, iFleat, are introducing this world first for flights.

The new shared airgusto premium service allows passengers who have booked a long-haul flight from Berlin in Economy Class to pre-order their preferred meal from selected Berlin restaurants online. The high-class menus will be arranged on china ware and served on flights from Berlin to New York, Chicago, Miami, Abu Dhabi and Punta Cana. To order via iFleat.com or the free iFleat app, the booking number must be entered no later than twelve hours before departure.

“We’re proud to be able to offer a new premium service together with airgusto that allows every passenger to customise their airberlin flight. airgusto is an excellent addition to our extensive service on long-haul flights. In a few months’ time, we aim to expand the new service to more long-haul routes together with iFleat, by serving food from local restaurants in our target destinations”, says Stefan Pichler, Chief Executive Officer airberlin.

“As we all love to travel and discover new places, iFleat wants to make travel even more exciting by offering delicious and generous dishes created by passionate Chefs from restaurants all over the world. We are proud to have airberlin as our launching customer and we will continue our culinary journey and find more and more fabulous restaurants from the cities airberlin is connecting”, says Jaap Roukens, Chief Executive Officer and founder of iFleat.

The selected Berlin restaurants include Chupenga from Berlin Mitte, which is inspired by the Mexican street food markets of San Francisco, along with the classic Italian restaurant Mondo Pazzo from Charlottenburg. airberlin also offers hearty in-flight schnitzel from Mutzenbacher’s in Friedrichshain. The Superfood restaurant from Berlin Mitte combines culinary pleasure with healthy eating, and its organic dishes are prepared so as to retain as many nutrients and vitamins as possible. Umami from Prenzlauer Berg contributes its creative, traditional Far Eastern cuisine to the in-flight offering. The multi-course menus cost between 19 and 37 euros.

airberlin will also continue to offer a full-service concept on long-haul flights, serving its passengers up to two hot meals along with hot and cold drinks, depending on the duration of the flight.
