Croatia Airlines makes about-face with Heathrow slots

On January 9 of this year, state-owned Croatia Airlines, who had initially reported it would sell off some of its slots at Heathrow Airport, announced it would not be selling them after all, with the media citing government concerns over the loss of what was viewed as a strategic asset.

However, Croatia Airlines CEO, Kresimir Kucko, has now confirmed that the airline did indeed do an about-face, and sold some of its slots to Delta Air Lines to the tune of $19.5 million.

The airline sold 5 of its 9 slots at London’s Heathrow to Delta consisting of morning slots on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Croatia now has four afternoon slots at Heathrow and will continue to operate Zagreb-London flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

The slots transfer is expected to take effect from April 1, 2017.
