Magnetic Latvia: Go off the beaten path with Nordic travel storytellers in #LatviaRoadtrip

“The best part of following the open road and where it leads you is making space for serendipity,” shares Lola Akinmade Åkerström, travel writer, photographer, and blogger. “Space for meeting people who make your trip richer and more memorable. From people who are passionate about their work to people who are actively preserving history in a way that’s natural and unpretentious.”

Explore lush forests, enjoy centuries’ old grand manor houses, relax along pristine beaches, sample local cuisine prepared with love and rejuvenate in traditional saunas and spas. Face the open road with the wind as your guide. Enjoy Latvia slowly on your own #LatviaRoadtrip.

The Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) created the #LatviaRoadtrip Campaign in partnership with NordicTB – a collective of professional travel influencers based in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland. The visual story “Latvia: Journey of Flavours” was created for the campaign by Storytravelers – a group of professional visual artists.

After a successful first campaign which explored Western Latvia (including Liepaja, Kuldiga, Alsunga), the second phase took the digital storytellers through both Northern and Eastern Latvia on two separate road trips:

The Foodie Route which focused on local culinary experiences and the Riga-Gauja region as a 2017 European Region of Gastronomy.

The Culture Route which included learning traditions at rural guest houses and farm houses in Eastern Latvia (Latgale region) as well as exploring surrounding areas.

“I felt like I was with them on their journey thanks to following their adventures on social media,” adds Lelde Benke, Media & Marketing Project Manager, LIAA. “I loved all the nuances that they had picked up on! Much more refreshing and interesting than a regular account of the major sights and attractions.”
