Jamaica Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett, will join leading Caribbean experts in tourism at the 47th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), where they will discuss issues that are key to advancing economic growth in the Caribbean, including regional productivity and tourism industry reform. The meeting will be held in the Turks and Caicos Islands from May 24-25, 2017.

While there, at the invitation of CDB President Dr. William Warren Smith, Minister Bartlett will participate in a panel discussion on “Tourism Industry Reform: Strategies for Enhanced Economic Impact”, of which he believes Jamaica is already poised to benefit.

“I am pleased that Dr. Smith has asked me to participate in this very important discussion on the requirements for transforming tourism into a sector that is resilient, induces growth and creates jobs. It is equally an honour to represent Jamaica at this distinguished forum, as it demonstrates a confidence in us throughout the region to make a meaningful contribution to tourism’s strategic plan for economic prosperity,” said Minister Bartlett.

The panel discussion will take place on May 25 at the Gustarvus Lightbourne Sports Complex and will be moderated by Barbados-born Caribbean broadcaster, Julian Rogers. Minister Bartlett will be joined by Secretary General of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), Hugh Riley; Economist Dr. Amos Peters; and Executive Director of the Turks and Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association Stacy Cox.

The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) is a regional financial institution that was created for the purpose of contributing to the economic growth and development of member countries in the Caribbean. It assists Caribbean nations in financing social and economic programs. The Board of Governors is the highest policy making body of the CDB and meets once a year in one of the member countries of CDB.

Minister Bartlett leaves the island today (May 24).
