Hundreds of passengers are on the airport tarmac running for shelter. People are hiding or running in all different directions.

It’s Friday 12.55pm at Terminal 2 at an unsecured area of the airport. “I’m at the Ft. Lauderdale Airport. Shots have been fired. Everyone is running.” This is one out of hundreds of tweets starting to develop from airline passengers and airport workers running for their life this morning at Ft. Lauderdale International Airport in Florida, USA.

3 hours later the  Browsers County Sheriff Department confirmed 11 people shot, at least 5 are dead, confirmed by federal agents

The shooter is reportedly in police custody.Fort Lauderdale shooter was named as Esteban Santiago and had a US military ID.

Two hours later tweets were coming in on a second active shooting. This time the scene was the parking lot in lower level at Terminal 4.  A massive number of  Fort Lauderdale and airport police officers are rushing to the scene. The situation is chaotic and confusing. A little later a spokesperson said there was no second shooter and no further threats known.

A FBI spokesperson another hour later said there was no second shooting.

News stations showed videos of medics taking care of a bleeding victim outside the airport. News helicopters hovering over the scene showed hundreds of people standing on the tarmac as an ambulance drove by and numerous law enforcement officers, including tactical units, rushed to the scene.

Fort Lauderdale airport is closed and will be closed for several hours according to a spokesperson.

Former White House spokesman Ari Fleischer tweeted that he was at the airport when shots were fired and “everyone is running.”
