UNWTO Secretary General candidacy: Long list gets longer with Gloria Guevara adding her name

Gloria Guevara is in the process submitting papers to add her name to the long and ever-growing list of candidates to become the next UNWTO Secretary General.

eTN has learned from a reliable source in Madrid that she has verbally confirmed her candidacy today during the FITUR trade show in the Spanish capital. eTN had predicted her candidacy in a recent article.

Guevara was the Secretary of Tourism for Mexico from March 2010 to November 30, 2012. She worked for Sabre Travel Network and Sabre Holdings for 15 years in a variety of positions. She was based in Mexico City, then Coral Gables Florida, where she had regional responsibilities and worked for the Latin America and the Caribbean region. She later held global responsibilities as Vice President for Customer Solutions and Vendor Management in the Information Office at Sabre’s headquarters in Southlake, Texas. Gloria was also the CEO of Sabre de Mexico, a joint venture between Aeromexico, Mexicana, and Sabre holdings, where she reported to the board of directors.

Sabre today holds a World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) Executive Committee seat, even though Gloria Guevara is no longer with Sabre and operates her own consulting firm in Florida.
