UNWTO and WTTC on Donald Trump, open borders and peace through tourism

“This is the right side of history, we build a better world when we travel”

At the World Travel Market in London, Louis D’Amore is celebrating 30 years of peace through tourism.

Taleb Rifai, UNWTO Secretary General, addressed the audience Wednesday afternoon. Putting down his script on the podium, Mr. Rifai said:”In view of the US election I cannot be only politically correct and would like to say – nobody on the wrong side of history has every succeeded. We become better people when we travel. The concept of open borders needs to be continued. People will defy. This is the right side of history, we build a better world when we travel. We are not accepting hating each other and build walls.”


Mr. Rifai went on to relate his congratulations to IIPT founded in 1986 by Louis D’Amore, saying that IIPT is pillar for peace and represents the good of our industry and a beautiful world.

WTTC CEO David Scowsill said: “It took the new Obama administration some time to adopt andd this will not be any different under a Trump administration.”

Trump runs hotels and knows the travel industry. He said his plan is to build roads and airports.
