7 Things to Do in Las Vegas That Aren’t a Gamble

Las Vegas is one of the world’s favorite vacation destinations. The glitz and glamour of the city in the desert have been bringing in tourists for decades, mainly to play card games and slot machines at one of its many casinos. But Vegas has so much more to offer than just card tables and one arm bandits.

With so much on offer, it is easy to forget about gambling all together, and just get out into the city and the desert to see the sights. More and more families and couples are turning to Las Vegas as a tourist destination, as it seeks to shed its aged image as a place for bachelor parties and rushed weddings, and become one of the world’s favorite tourist destinations. Here are seven activities the whole family can enjoy when visiting Las Vegas.

Visit the Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is only a short bus ride away, and just minutes away by helicopter. There are a number of organized tours to this wonder of the world, and the prices are very competitive. There is a fantastic visitors center at the canyon, and many tours will include a lunch on the edge of the canyon. There is a skywalk that lets you get out over the canyon’s edge, so you can really appreciate its size and majesty. If you are in Vegas, you should absolutely take the time to visit one of the planet’s greatest natural features.

Catch a Show

Some of the greatest shows on the planet play every night in Vegas. There are variety shows, cabaret, comedy, and some of the greatest feats of magic and acrobatics the world has seen at the Cirque de Soleil. Musical acts are the big draw on the Vegas strip, and there are always two or three of the world’s biggest stars in residency at the Las Vegas showrooms, like Britney Spears and Cher. Nearly every Las Vegas hotel has a showroom with a big show on offer, so fans of live entertainment have plenty to choose from.

Visit a Theme Park

As well as some of the world’s greatest theme hotels, some of the world’s most unique theme parks are right in the center of the city. Stratosphere Casino has thrill rides right at the top of its 1,149 feet tower, and the Adventuredome has a 5-acre fairground under its giant canopy, and is open all year round. There is even the Wet & Wild waterpark available, with water slides and tidal pools flowing just yards from the main strip. Not all of the thrill and action to be had in Vegas is on the casino floor, with some of the world’s most exciting theme park rides available right in the heart of Las Vegas.

Recreational Cannabis

Since a recent change in legislation, recreational cannabis has become a major tourist attraction in Las Vegas. Pot tours around the new Las Vegas dispensaries are very popular with tourists and local alike. You can read more here about the Vegas pot boom, and how it’s quickly becoming a new reason to take a trip to the Sin City. There are new dispensaries opening every week, offering a wide variety of strains, and taking an organized tour is the best way to see what these new shops have in store for the curious tourist.

Take a Bus Tour

With so much to see in Vegas, bus tours are a great way to get around and see all the sights. Las Vegas has been a fixture in movies and television for years, and nearly every street corner is a landmark. Bus tours are a cheap and convenient way to make sure you see everything, with stops all over the city, and at all the major tourist destinations and hotels. With a bus tour you can buy a pass for the day, or a few days, and explore at your leisure. You can stop wherever you want to for as long as you want to, and just hop on to another bus when you are ready to move to the next spot.

Go Out to the Desert

The rugged tranquility of the open desert has been the subject of many songs, stories and movies. There are many organized tours out into the desert, and they should not be missed. There are many desert pursuits on offer, like dune buggies and pony trekking. Night visits to the desert are becoming more popular, as the low light pollution makes it the perfect place to go stargazing, and even look out for unidentified flying objects! The desert can be a formidable and dangerous place, so please do not go it alone, and make sure you only venture out there as a part of an organized and guided tour group.

Shop Until You Drop

Las Vegas has some of the biggest shopping malls in the world, and stores from the top designer labels all the way to regular main street brands can be found here. You can find anything and everything in a town like Vegas, and it is possible to shop all day long with many stores and malls in hotels open 24/7. If you are thinking of going on a shop-cation to Vegas, you might need to take an empty suitcase with you if you are going to get all that shopping home!

There is lots to do in Las Vegas besides gamble your time away. The thrill of the card tables soon wears out, and leaves an empty hole in your pocket, so you should make sure you take the time to see what else the city has to offer. One of the greatest natural wonders of the world is just a stone’s throw away, and some of the best shows and theme parks on the planet can be found right in the center of the city. If you are planning on visiting Vegas, get out of the casino and see the real sights.
