African Youth Games 2018 17 athletes from Seychelles

A contingent of 17 young athletes left Seychelles to take part in the third African Youth Games, organised by the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (Anoca) between July 19-28 in Algiers, Algeria.

The African Youth Games is an international multi-sport event held every four years to complement the current All-Africa Games. The first Games was hosted by Rabat, Morocco.

This international sportive event has been created by Lassana Palenfo, current director of the Anoca. The idea came in 2006, but the very first African Youth Games only occurred in 2010. The 2nd African Youth Games took place in Gaborone, Botswana’s capital City from May 22 to 31, 2014.

Team Seychelles will be led at the event by Chef de Mission Norbert Dogley and our young athletes will take part in nine sporting disciplines. They are athletics, badminton, cycling, judo, table tennis, triathlon, swimming, sailing and weightlifting.

In line with the Association for National Olympic Academy of Africa (AANOA) promotion of Olympic values during the Games, the athletes attended a session last week organised by the Seychelles Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (Socga) in collaboration with the National Olympic Academy of Seychelles (NOAS) to brief them on the values.
