Another performing year for Seychelles Tourism industry

The Seychelles has closed the year with 303,177 visitors landing on its shores, a 10 % increase over figures for the year 2015. The Seychelles Tourism Board witnessed growth on all of its major markets with the biggest increase being the UAE which now has climb third on the rank of key markets for Seychelles. UAE has grown by 74% over 2 years. The UK and Ireland came out as the fastest growing market for Europe with 15.23% growth over 2015 and 51.20% increase over a short span of two years. Historic record has been observed for key markets such as France finishing the year on 43,066 visitors representing a 15.29% increase and Germany with 39,488 representing a 10.01% increase.

Growth were also recorded in several key emerging markets such as china with 4 %, India, having surpassed the 10,000 mark finishing at 10,916 representing a 41 % growth. The Seychelles Tourism Board only ventured into India some 3 short years ago. The main segments targeted there are wedding and honeymoons but there has been growing interest in the last year in the incentives niche market.

Other emerging markets with significant growth has been Switzerland with 7% growth also one which has surpassed the 10,000 mark finishing with 12,333 visitors.

The Seychelles Tourism Board is very grateful for the support received from the various partners and acknowledges their support and contribution toward this excellent result.

“We are happy for most our activities we have been able to join forces with the private sector tourism trade partners, and it is with this approach that we have been able to achieve so much,” Mrs. Francis shared “It is in working together that we can achieve great results. we are there to promote the destination but it is through the ultimate sales conversion of the Trade partners that we are able to grow the industry.”

The Board aims to finish the year 2017 on a 5-7% growth and intends to continue with its strategy to keep on focusing its efforts and resources on the main performing markets such as France, Germany, UK, Italy and UAE while at the same time consolidate its two markets with difficulties; Russia and South Africa. STB is also looking to reposition itself in China where it will be more targeted within certain key cities mainly Beijing and a few in the south of China.

Efforts will also be given to develop further emerging and secondary markets with great potential, through trade relationship, such as Switzerland, Austria, Israel, the Scandinavia and the Nordics, eastern and central European countries, Portugal and Switzerland, Brazil and the US, the GCC region, South Korea as well as Japan amongst a few others.
