Bad weather in Delhi causing flight disruptions

Bad weather in Delhi, India, is causing air transportation congestion today, Friday, May 17, 2019, with 32 flights being diverted as a result.

Route disruptions are being experienced from flights taking off or landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The location serves both domestic and international flights.

An airport official said, “The flights have been diverted from Delhi to nearby airports, including Lucknow, Jaipur, and Amritsar due to rain and winds.”

Between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm, 10 flights had to be diverted, and another 22 were diverted between 9:00 pm and 10:00 pm due to the weather.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain accompanied by a thunderstorm and hail in Delhi and other adjoining areas for today. The department said this would occur in isolated areas for approximately 2 hours.

Wind gusts of up to 40-50 kmph was expected to occur over and adjoining areas of Delhi and other areas of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
