Breast augmentation

For many women, a spectacular figure is the key to self-confidence. It is not only about a slender silhouette, but also about an attractive chest. Small bust, asymmetry, decrease in elasticity after strong weight loss, pregnancy and lactation, or as a result of age-related changes — Here are just some of the reasons why women seek plastic surgery. Modern breast augmentation will help to cope with any of the problems and save the fair sex from complexes.

What is breast augmentation

Breast Augmentation — This is a surgical intervention during which the size and shape of the breast is corrected with the help of safe implants. They can be teardrop-shaped, round and ergonomic, smooth or textured.

For breast augmentation, silicone implants can be placed as follows:

  • directly under the glandular tissue of the mammary gland without involvement of the pectoral muscles in the process;
  • under the fascia of the pectoral muscles, providing additional fixation of the implants;
  • under the pectoralis major muscle with a lean physique of the patient;
  • directly under the skin for reconstructive operations in oncological diseases.

Breast augmentation can be performed using several types of incisions. Traditional approaches used by plastic surgeons include:

  • Axillary (through the armpit). As a rule, in this case, manipulations are carried out using endoscopic instruments. The indisputable advantage of axillary access — the absence of damage to the tissues of the mammary gland and the scar in its area. However, with this method, there is a lack of visual control of actions and increased trauma.
  • Periareolar (along the lower edge of the areola). This access allows you to use implants of any shape and size, change the parameters and location of the nipple. However, with a periareolar incision, the integrity of the glandular tissue is violated, which in the future can lead to problems with breastfeeding. Therefore, surgeons recommend such access to patients who do not plan a pregnancy in the future or have already given birth.
  • Submammary (through the inframammary fold). This incision provides good access and allows the placement of various implants without difficulty. However, it is not without drawbacks: the postoperative scar can be noticeable when raising the arms and in the prone position.

Indications for breast augmentation

It is worth emphasizing that breast augmentation — This is an operation for which there is no medical indication. It is performed only in cases where a woman is not satisfied with her appearance. Among the most common subjective shortcomings:

  • small breast size;
  • asymmetry of the mammary glands;
  • change in shape, decrease in elasticity, prolapse of the mammary glands after pregnancy and breastfeeding, due to age-related processes.

Where can breast augmentation be done?

Currently breast augmentation is one of the most popular plastic surgeries. Often women choose Latvian Microsurgery Center to fulfill their desires.

An obligatory stage of preparation for the operation — consultations during which the doctor and the patient agree on the shape and size of the future breast, select implants, and conduct additional studies to assess the state of health and prevent possible risks.

Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia, the duration of the operation is on average one to two hours. After the intervention, the patient remains under observation in the hospital for at least a day.
