Brussels: A plethora of tourist events to liven up the autumn

Once again, this year it will be impossible to miss the many events causing a stir throughout Brussels starting in September. From design to comic books and cuisine, there will be something for everyone.

Design September

Just like what’s happening in Milan, Montreal, and Courtrai, Brussels has become a gathering place for designers from Belgium and abroad, though in Brussels the event lasts a month, not a week! Debates, studio tours, city walks, and other markets with good finds draw a large and diverse crowd and underscore Brussels’ rank among the design capitals of the world.

eat! Brussels, drink! Bordeaux

This coming 6, 7, 8, and 9 September, Parc de Bruxelles will once again serve as the setting for the eat! Brussels, drink! Bordeaux festival. About twenty Brussels chefs will take to the kitchen to prepare their signature dishes for the public. To complement these delicious dishes, about fifty Bordeaux wine growers and merchants will offer a wide range of wines highlighting the diversity, quality, and accessibility of Bordeaux wines. There’s sure to be plenty to delight the senses of their foodie visitors!

ART ON PAPER

From its inception Art On Paper has sought to convey the variety and diversity of contemporary design methods – their inventiveness and relevance. In order to accomplish this, the fair offers different audiences, amateur and professional alike, the chance to explore this bounty through solo artist shows.

Brussels Gallery Weekend

This coming 6-9 September, Brussels Gallery Weekend will hold its 11th edition in the European capital. The main event of Brussels’ contemporary art season, it now brings together forty galleries and more than ten institutions and artist spaces.

A Performance Affair

To mark its first edition, A PERFORMANCE AFFAIR (APA) is delighted to introduce a new initiative and platform for the performing arts. As a non-profit association, APA is an flexible entity bringing together artists, galleries, collectors, and institutions whose objective is to research discussion topics based on current trends in performing arts and their underlying economics.

Belgian Beer Weekend

“Laughter is to man what beer is to the pump,” wrote Alphonse Allais. The quip seems to have been written for Belgium, the ultimate country for this beverage, which is savoured at all occasions. Gathering of vehicles and wagons from historic breweries, introduction of new beers, tasting, and concerts: plenty to bring a smile to visitors’ faces!

Brussels Comic Strip Festival & Balloon’s Day Parade

Since its debut in 2010, the Brussels Comic Strip Festival has become the main event for every comics fan. Young and old, novices and experts, all share a passion for the ninth art and come together each year to participate in the variety of activities on offer.

Brussels Museum Nights

Another season of Brussels Museum Nights is on the way! Every Thursday night starting 14 September, (re)discover at least five museums in a relaxed atmosphere at an affordable price (free/2€ (-26) / 4€). They will enable you to take advantage of Brussels’ rich culture through special guided tours, activities for young and old, events among their collections, and temporary exhibitions. Good times guaranteed, to be shared with family, friends, or colleagues.

Bike Brussels

The Bike Brussels Fair is held in the middle of Mobility Week and includes the Car-Free Brussels Day, Sunday, 16 September 2018. This day brings together hundreds of thousands of cyclists in the streets of Brussels!

Mobility Week & Car-Free Sunday
Each year, Mobility Week is the ideal opportunity to try more sustainable modes of transportation. Cycling, carpooling, walking. Car-Free Sunday in Brussels has become Europe’s largest car-free area, but, above all, it is a real festival. A city without cars is buzzing with life and surprisingly pleasant. Brussels Cocktail Week

After its successful premiere, the Brussels Cocktail Week team is back with… even more cocktails. From 23 through 29 September 2018, Brussels will become the mixology capital of Europe for a week bubbling with events and tastings. More than 30 of the capital’s bars and restaurants are participating in this latest edition offering new discoveries and great taste. New this year: “The cocktail of the week.” Each BCW bar will have a new recipe on its menu. A cocktail priced under 10 euros, in order to explore the world of mixology without breaking the bank.

Nuits Sonores & European Lab Brussels

The second edition of Nuits Sonores and European Lab Brussels will run from 27 through 30 September 2018. A project born of a desire and an ambition: to create in the fascinating Belgian capital an event accessible to all, challenging and galvanising, a panorama of independent cultures and European reflections, diversity, the artistic and intellectual dynamism of today, by bringing together places, stakeholders and process leaders, and local ideas and initiatives.

Brussels Design Market

Established in 2002, the Brussels Design Market is a flea market exclusively devoted to design, and, more specifically, to productions from the Fifties to the early Eighties. About a hundred exhibitors, professionals, and novices from all over Europe display furniture and objects in a relaxed flea market atmosphere.

ACAF

Created in 2006, this fair is notable because the artists themselves exhibit and have the opportunity to sell their work. Accessible Art Fair (ACAF) brings original art, combining photography, design, and sculpture, to a wide audience. During this September edition, fashion photographer Dirk Lambrechts will be in the spotlight with his “Cover-ed” series dedicated to his late father.
