While welcoming close to one million extra travelers than this time last year, Budapest Airport is firmly on the road to reach the 11 million mark in 2016.
Having already celebrated 19 new links during the summer season – notably an additional direct link to Toronto with new airline partner, Air Canada rouge – the capital city continues to far outperform the European passenger average growth.
Continuing to develop its solid route network, the Hungarian gateway has launched W16/17 by welcoming five new routes in the first week, from three of its largest airlines: home-based Wizz Air’s weekly services to Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, as well as thrice-weekly service to Sofia; Europe’s largest low-cost carrier, Ryanair’s daily flight to Nuremberg; and leading British low-cost carrier, easyJet’s thrice-weekly service to Venice Marco Polo.
Celebrating three of the capital city airport’s new links
Welcoming easyJet’s second link to Italy from Budapest Airport on 31 October along with crew were: William Vet, Commercial Manager for Netherlands, easyJet and Balázs Bogáts, Head of Airline Development, Budapest Airport. The low-cost carrier (LCC) will be connecting the Hungarian gateway to Venice Marco Polo Airport – the city’s main airport – with a thrice-weekly service. As well as recently announcing a new link to Amsterdam from 6 February 2017, the LCC will now operate eight routes from Hungary, the new links joining London Gatwick, Berlin, Paris, Lyon, Basel and Geneva on the carrier’s network.
Starting Budapest’s new link to Bavaria, Ryanair began its daily service to Nuremberg on 1 November. Home to one of Hungary’s largest expat communities, with more than 60,000 Hungarians living in the region, the growing number of indirect passengers from Bavaria will welcome the in-demand direct link. Facing no competition on the airport pair, the low-cost carrier now serves a total of 20 routes from the Hungarian gateway.
Launching Budapest’s first route to Lanzarote, Wizz Air’s inaugural flight to the easternmost Canary Island was welcomed on 2 November by Balázs Bogáts, Head of Airline Development, Budapest Airport, and Tamara Vallois, Head of Communications, Wizz Air (right). Alongside the recently announced new destinations for S17 – Faro, Hannover, Bergen and Lamezia Terme – the new weekly service to Lanzarote means that Budapest’s home-based carrier will connect Hungary’s capital to 58 cities.
