Budapest Airport’s valued donation

Raising a record €39,500 this year, the fifth Budapest Airport Runway Run was held again in aid of the airport’s chosen charity, Hungary’s Suhanj! Foundation. Equally sharing all profits from the annual air transport industry’s 10km race with charity of choice, Anthony Nolan – the UK-based bone marrow transplant association – Budapest Airport proudly donated €19,766 with its share of the funds raised, close to an overall €50,000 over the past three years of its patronage with Suhanj!

At the official presentation of this year’s donation, Kam Jandu, CCO, Budapest Airport enthused: “Each year we have seen our event bring together the air transport community in such a unique way in Europe. We’re extremely proud that our fundraising, alongside the generosity of our sponsors, helps us to support the Suhanj! Foundation and the fantastic work the association does to include disabled people in every aspect of sport.”

Founded in 2010, Suhanj! Foundation was formed with the aim to share the enjoyment of sports with those living with disabilities. As one of its main sponsors, Budapest enabled the organization to open Hungary’s first integrative gym last July, purchasing accessible equipment with the gateway’s significant donations from the runway run. Open to people of varying abilities, the facility also promotes the employment of people who may be physically challenged or suffer from a health condition.

The organizers and headline sponsors Airbus and Qatar Airways, with the combined support of SSP, Heinemann, SITA, KPMG, Z&Z, Travelport, Market, Primavera and Nickelodeon, resulted in record donations as well as more than four times the amount of entries since the first race five years ago. This September saw over 1,000 runners from airlines, airports, and other aviation enterprises from across the globe on the start line alongside participants from Suhanj! – an inspiring display of the charity’s aspirations.
