A unique blend of individuals who have furthered the efforts of the travel industry – from elected officials and national celebrities to travel industry leaders and regional business entrepreneurs – have been recognized for their valuable work in a variety of categories by the California Travel Association. This year is no different; at the 32nd Annual ‘California Travel Summit’, noted as the state’s premier travel/tourism/hospitality education and networking conference, CalTravel will recognize several individuals/entities. This year’s Summit is being held from June 23-25th at the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City.

One of its most significant awards, an annual presentation going back to the 1980’s, the F. Norman Clark Tourism Champion of the Year Award, is a tribute to CalTravel founder F. Norman Clark, recognizing tourism excellence in a specific year or a body of work. Past recipients have included some of California’s most notable citizens. This year CalTravel has selected Bob Warren, past General Manager of one of California’s first regional destination marketing organizations, the Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association, to receive the F. Norman Clark Tourism Champion of the Year Award. Mr. Warren’s efforts and accomplishments are numerous, with most directed to what he has seen as a most important goal, raising the domestic and world travel consumer’s awareness of California’s world class rural tourism product. He has seen improving the marketing of the public lands and private sector rural tourism services as a key to greater financial success for the “beyond the gateways” destinations. These are the hundreds of attractions and destinations beyond California’s major cities in rural California.
