China launches campaign to tackle public transport groping
Groping on public transport is a problem the world over, but the scale of it in China is getting out of hands.
China has long been resigned to the fact that during crowded rush hours, some people grope other passengers in jam-packed buses and subway cars. Among the Chinese, there is even an expression – “let loose salty pig legs”, which means groping in public transport.
The first who decided to deal with this problem was Shanghai police, who turned up the heat on sexual predators on public transport and began detaining people, who public transport passengers filed complaints about.
Now Chinese federal authorities, who are taking yet more measures to tackle a serious problem, have decided to adopt the initiative of local law enforcement, and set up police task force to tackle the problem of sexual harassment on public transportation.
