Truck that may have been used in terror attack in Manhattan.Just breaking, a truck drove the wrong way for approximately 20 blocks in Manhattan, New York, hitting and injuring people and killing 8. Witnesses said the truck driver was yelling “Allahu Akbar.”
The truck was driving down the bike path of a West Side Highway bike path for several blocks, striking people. It was stopped when it slammed into a school bus. Four people on the bus suffered minor injures from the crash. So far, it has been reported that more than 12 people were injured.
A witness reported that he saw two bodies with tire tracks across them, and that the truck stopped after hitting the bus across its middle and smashing into another truck. The witness said he then heard around 9 gun shots, but could not say if it came from police or another source.
The driver jumped out of the Home Depot rental truck with what some witnesses say looked like guns – it has been reported that they may have been a pellet gun and a paint ball gun. He was shot by police and is in custody and was taken to a nearby hospital.
“This was an act of terror, and a particularly cowardly act of terror,” New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said.
It is has been reported that the police are treating this as an act of terrorism, and the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force has taken over the lead of the investigation.
