Developing connectivity for India’s northeastern states

India’s Chief Minister of Manipur, Okram Ibobi Singh, has stressed the need for developing air connectivity to the states, especially bringing international flights to Imphal.

He was speaking on November 24 at the opening of the 5th International Tourism Mart being held for the first time in Manipal. Forty-eight international delegates are attending the 3-day event, and 80 suppliers from the 8 northeastern states are showcasing products of the region.

The Chief Minister said that the mart is coinciding with the 10-day Sangai festival, to showcase the cultural and natural heritage of the state.

Tourism Secretary Vinod Zutshi said that the Ministry of Tourism was committed to developing and promoting the northeastern states of the country.

He said that 12 projects worth Rs 1070.07 crores covering the 8 states under the flagship Swadesh Darshan had been sanctioned.
