Earthquakes and Tsunami watches from Solomon Islands to California

Initially measured as an 8.0 and later downgraded to 7.7 strong earthquake  the Solomon Island was hit this Thursday morning. The Earthquake triggered immediate Tsunami Warnings for the region and a tsunami watch was extended also to the US State of Hawaii and the extended Hawaiian Islands.

The earthquake at Solomon Islands was recorded at 7.39 am Hawaiian Time. The Tsunami Watch for Hawaii was issued at 7.46 am and canceled at 8.36 am.
Warnings were issued also for  New Caledonia  and the Island Republic of Vanuatu.


The USGS reported a 5.5-magnitude aftershock to hit the same region following the initial quake.

Earlier another powerful magnitude 6.5 earthquake rocked the Northern California coast in the United States Thursday morning.

The quake occurred about 100 miles off the coast of Eureka, near the Oregon state line, at about 6:50 a.m. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage
