Four tourists from Italy and Spain were killed in a grisly road accident in Northern Tanzania yesterday, Sunday, while driving to the famous wildlife parks of Tarangire and Ngorongoro.
The four tourists with two Tanzanians were instantly killed after their safari vehicle they were traveling in, a Japanese Toyota Land Cruiser, car collided with a heavy duty truck, about 65 kilometers from the tourist city of Arusha.
Security authorities said the four tourists and their two Tanzanian safari assistants succumbed to death when their vehicle hit a truck that swerved from the other side of the road, causing the tourist car to smash on its trailer.
Authorities said that the four tourists will be flown to their home countries this week after completion of proper arrangements to transport their bodies to Europe. Names of the victims have not been released.
The Northern Tanzania Circuit is famous for premier wildlife parks including Ngorongoro Crater and its surrounding Conservation Area, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Serengeti National Park, among others.
The accident is counted as a rare incident in this part of Tanzania that involves tourists visiting the wildlife parks.
Tanzania is, however, an accident-prone African nation due to its poor road network, reckless driving, and dilapidated vehicles.
