Executives from Genting Hong Kong and Meyer Werft shipyard celebrated the keel laying of World Dream, the second new ship for Asian luxury cruise line, Dream Cruises, during a special event held in Papenburg, Germany. A significant milestone in a vessel’s timeline, this traditional ceremony mark’s the formal recognition of the start of a new ship’s construction.
“After the successful debut of Genting Dream last November and the wonderful reception the ship has experienced from our guests, we are excited to start the construction process on World Dream,” said Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Genting Hong Kong. “World Dream will push the bar even higher for the cruise industry through her quality construction and customized design, best in class service and diverse range of entertainment, dining, leisure and recreation options – all complemented by Dream Cruises’ Asian at Heart, International in Spirit hospitality.”
During the official ceremony, block number 3, one of 92 blocks that will eventually complete the 151,000 tonnage ship, was lifted into the building dock to officially start the block assembly for World Dream. In keeping with tradition, Thatcher Brown, President of Dream Cruises, laid the customary “lucky coins” under the keel block of the new vessel as a symbol of good fortune and to bless the ship.
When World Dream joins her sister ship Genting Dream this November 2017, Dream Cruises will have the newest fleet, 100% dedicated to the Asia cruise market. “Genting Hong Kong is proud to build on its commitment to the Asian cruise and tourism industry. Being the first company to offer cruises in China over 20 years ago with Star Cruises, Genting Hong Kong conceived Dream Cruises as the first-ever Asian luxury cruise line featuring a fleet of state-of-the art vessels.
Upon completion, the 21-deck World Dream will be able to accommodate over 3,300 guests in nearly 1,700 staterooms of which 70% have private balconies and over 100 offer connecting cabins. Special attention has been given to catering to the meetings and incentive market with spaces and services designed to accommodate group needs.
World Dream will provide guests with an unparalleled choice of onboard activities, amenities and stateroom options with the latest features, including the popular “Dream Palace” exclusive ship-within-a-ship concept with European style butler service, Crystal Life Spa and Wellness facilities, over 1,000 square meters of luxury shops, six water park slides, and the renowned Zouk night club. The ship will offer numerous food and beverage outlets such as gourmet restaurants, bars and cafes specializing in Asian and international cuisines. Building on the success of Genting Dream, World Dream will enhance its Food and Beverage offerings with innovative culinary and lifestyle partnerships.
World Dream is scheduled to make her debut in the Asia Pacific in November of this year.
