Hermes takes over Cyprus Airports’ security

The Ministry of Transport, Communications & Works and Hermes Airports signed an agreement this morning for the transfer of aviation security services at Cyprus Airports, to Hermes Airports.

The agreement which follows the decision made by the Cabinet regarding the aviation security services, aims to improve the quality and the operating times and to ensure better service for the traveling public. National security issues and entry/exit control to the country, remains a responsibility of the State.

In this context, Hermes Airports is proceeding immediately to initiate two related tenders.

The first tender concerns the takeover of responsibility for providing the aviation security services along with all the relevant works at the airports. The second tender concerns the takeover of the control procedures and compliance with the relevant regulations of the company who will be selected to provide the aviation security services at the airports.

It should be noted that as a result of the transfer of these services to Hermes, Cyprus Police will be in position to save a significant number of its human resources, as until now, the Police was obliged to staff all the security services operating at the two airports without exception. Finally, it is emphasized that the ultimate supervision of the offered security services, will be exercised by the Civil Aviation and the European Commission, based on the European regulations.
