Arunachal Pradesh (AP), a northeastern state of India that borders China, is keen to promote tourism to the splendor of the area. The emphasis is on natural beauty and even more so on the beauty of the people.
Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Home Affairs, who hails from Arunachal Pradesh, told a tourism conclave of AP in New Delhi on March 24, that adventure tourism possibilities and biodiversity, plus the monasteries, were some reasons for people to visit the state. He said that efforts should be intensified to improve infrastructure and air connectivity.
Joram Beda, Tourism Secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Government, invited investors to come to the state to be part of the development process in tourism. He said that there were several unconquered peaks waiting to be discovered by adventure tourists. White water rafting potential was immense, he said, adding that luxury tents was another area waiting for investors.
The Department of Tourism has also embarked on various projects to cater to the tourists. Last year, AP welcomed 3.4 lakh tourists from other parts of the country and 5,000 from abroad. The State is highlighting some unique festivals to expose the culture and tribal wealth of the region to visitors.
The conclave was attended by many stakeholders, including Ajay Singh, head of SpiceJet, and Swadesh Kumar, President of Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAOI).
