India welcomes cruises from Mumbai to Maldives

Up until now, India has been starved for luxury sea exposure, and tourists have had to go far to board ships.

A new dimension will be added to the cruise tourism – where India is a late starter – when Costa Cruises of Italy launches weekly cruises from Mumbai to Maldives on December 16.

The cruise on Costa Neo Classica will operate until March 18, 2017 and is expected to be very popular. The ship has a 1,700-passenger capacity and will serve food to suit varied Indian tastes, including vegetarian, vegan, and Jain food.

In view of the novelty of the cruise, it is expected that there may be a demand for charters also, but because of logistics, this may not be possible this season, say the Indian handlers of the cruise.

December to March is holiday time and provides ideal weather conditions in this corner of the world. India has been starved for such luxury sea exposure, and tourists have had to go far to board ships.
