Indonesia struck by more earthquakes

Four earthquakes measuring up to 6.0 magnitude have hit off the coast of the Indonesian island of Sumba. The US Geological Survey reported that the quakes grew in strength as they struck, measuring in at 5.0, 5.4, 5.9, and 6.0 on the Richter scale.

These latest quakes were recorded approximately 18 miles (30 kilometers) south of Sumba between 23:12 UTC and 00:16 UTC.

Sumba island is located hundreds of miles south of Sulawesi, which is dealing with the deadly aftermath of a devastating 7.5 magnitude quake and tsunami that struck on Friday, September 28, 2018.

At last count, 884 people died in that quake, but the actual number will likely end higher. Rescuers are still searching, and survivors are still being found along with those who perished.

Authorities in Indonesia are frantically trying to provide water, shelter, and food for those that have been left homeless by the earthquake. The UN has estimated that approximately 191,000 are in need of assistance.
