ITB Berlin introduces new Medical Tourism Pavilion

This year ITB Berlin has introduced a new platform in Hall 3.2 for medical health providers, as well as hotels and destinations offering corresponding medical services. At the Medical Tourism Pavilion visitors can find about products and services and attend presentations and workshops on the latest trends and developments in this growth market.

Every year the Medical Travel Quality Alliance (MTQUA) inspects hospitals in Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and North and South America, and tests them for their expertise and services in treating and caring for people from around the world who have journeyed for medical help. The current top ten destinations have now been announced at ITB Berlin 2017. The Asklepios Klinik in Barmbek near Hamburg in Germany was number one, followed by the Clemenceau Medical Center in the Lebanese capital Beirut and the Fortis Hospital Bannerghatta in India. The other seven hospitals offering services for medical tourists were in Singapore, Malaysia, Canada, Jordan, Thailand, Mexico and Turkey.

“We are honoured to be able to announce these outstanding hospitals to leading decision- makers, experts and buyers from the global travel industry at the first medical tourism platform at ITB Berlin“, said Julie Munro, president of MTQUA. “The 2017 list contains a number of surprises and reflects the changes in this sector as a result of intense competition, efforts to improve quality and higher standards, and that benefits all medical tourists.“ Besides quality, the criteria for selecting hospitals included medical care and nursing, value for money, as well as aspects relating to communication, ethics, transparency and management.
