Jamaica Tourism Minister expresses sorrow over fatalities in Trelawny

Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett is expressing deep regret at the passing of two visitors and the injury of several other persons, as a result of a motor vehicle accident along the Salt Marsh Main Road in Trelawny this morning.

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of life as a result of the accident in Trelawny today. I also regret the fact that several persons have also been injured. This is a very unfortunate incident and I offer my condolences to the family and friends of those who have lost their lives. I wish those who are in hospital a speedy recovery,” said Minister Bartlett.

He added that “we have been monitoring the situation closely and representatives from the Ministry and its agencies are providing assistance to the relatives and friends of the deceased as well as those who have suffered injuries. I would like to again appeal to drivers to exercise care as they travel along our roadways in order to reduce accidents.”

According to Senior Superintendent Calvin Allen, head of the Police Traffic Division, the crash involved a Toyota Hiace bus transporting one passenger and a motorcar being driven by a tourist, which was transporting three persons who were also believed to be tourists. Police reports also indicate that the accident occurred at 10:00 a.m.

The driver of the motorcar and one passenger have succumbed to their injuries. While, the other individuals involved are currently being treated at hospital.
