John Nicholas appointed Principal Consultant at Baines Simmons

Baines Simmons, Air Partner’s aviation safety consultancy division, has appointed John Nicholas as a Principal Consultant. John, who is based at Baines Simmons’ headquarters at Fairoaks airport and reports directly to Jo Welland, Practice Director, assists clients with their regulatory compliance needs and develops programmes to improve performance.

John joined Baines Simmons from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), where he had a distinguished career spanning over 18 years. During this time, he held a variety of roles, including Head of Technical Services, Head of Shared Services, Head of Applications & Approvals and Head of Licensing Policy & Standards. While at the CAA, John led a number of key projects, most notably the introduction of several EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) requirements. John started his career with a UK airline as a licensed aircraft engineer, before joining the CAA as a Surveyor in 1997.

Jo Welland, Practice Director at Baines Simmons, said: “In the short time that he has been with us, John has proved an excellent addition to the team and our clients are already benefitting from his expertise in dealing with complex compliance and regulatory matters. The extensive experience gained during his time at the CAA makes John a perfect fit for Baines Simmons, and I am confident he will be a real driving force as we continue to go from strength to strength.

Commenting on his appointment, John said: “It’s a really exciting time to have joined Baines Simmons as the business continues to win substantial new contracts. I am delighted to be using my experience in airworthiness, training and safety policy to help Baines Simmons’ clients improve their regulatory performance.”
