The second A350-900, the world’s most modern and most environmentally-friendly long haul aircraft, will be named after the city of Stuttgart. This announcement was made today by Executive Board member Harry Hohmeister at a press conference at the ITB in Berlin.
The official naming ceremony will take place at a later date. Stuttgart’s Lord Mayor Fritz Kuhn will be participating in the ceremony, together with a delegation of representatives from the worlds of business and politics.
The “Stuttgart”, as it will in future be known, was delivered by Airbus at the end of February and is now stationed at the Lufthansa hub in Munich. Lufthansa has placed orders for a total of 25 ultra-modern jet aircraft of this type. On 14 March, the “Stuttgart” will take off on her first commercial flight to Boston, bearing the registration D-AIXB.
With the arrival of the A350-900, Lufthansa welcomes a state-of-the-art newcomer to its fleet. In February, the first of ten A350-900 aircraft arrived in Munich to be stationed there and is now in service for flights to the Indian metropolis of Delhi under the name “Nürnberg”.
The aircraft has capacity to carry 293 passengers – 48 passengers in Business Class, 21 in Premium Economy and 224 in Economy Class. The A350-900 is currently the world’s most modern and most environmentally-friendly long-haul aircraft. It uses 25 percent less kerosene, produces 25 percent fewer emissions and is significantly quieter on take-off than comparable types of aircraft.
