Martinique, St. Vincent, Barbados, Puerto Rico and St. Croix: Tourists bracing for Dorian

Tourists in Martinique, St. Vincent, Barbados, Puerto Rico, and St. Croix are alerted, that Dorian, a powerful tropical storm is on the way. Watches and warnings are in effect in the region, and tropical storm conditions are expected to start Tuesday.

Puerto Rico Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced has signed an executive order declaring a state of emergency ahead of Tropical Storm Dorian, Garced has also signed an order freezing prices, including fuel, to “prevent profiteering,” Deibert reports.

Tropical storm conditions are expected for Puerto Rico and St. Croix on Wednesday.

The emergency declaration will allow for the activation of Puerto Rico’s National Guard. Puerto Rico is still struggling to recover from Hurricane Maria, and declared bankruptcy in 2017 amid “the biggest government financial collapse in United States history.”

Experts say the tropical storm could form into a category one Hurricane on Wednesday when over the U.S. territory Puerto Rico.
