Meeting the needs of a booming travel and tourism industry in India

Prof. Sandeep Kulshreshtha, Director of the Indian Institute of Travel and Tourism Management (IITTM), today stressed the importance of trained manpower to meet the growing requirements of the booming travel and tourism industry in India.

In this context, he traced the growth of the IITTM which has embarked on an ambitious program to train skilled personnel in different areas of tourism where stakeholders are keen to take advantage of the love for and capacity to travel.

The IITTM is holding an international conference at the Noida campus of the IITTM in September of this year to explore the untapped areas of the travel and tourism market.

Kulshreshtha was speaking as chief guest at the launch of “Indian Tourism through the Decades – from Indus to Independence and Beyond,” written by Gour Kanjilal, who has spent nearly 50 years in the tourism industry in India as an official, promoter, observer, speaker, and writer on the various aspects of tourism.

The 188-page book should be taught to students in the scores of institutes and universities where tourism is being taught as a subject, the academician suggested. The book is divided into 31 chapters and covers history, trends, and facts over the years. The launch event was attended by several industry leaders and present and past bureaucrats, who lauded the efforts of Kanjilal to record facts for generations to come.

Colorful dance items were also presented on the occasion held at The Park hotel in India.
