A new bilateral air services agreement was signed over the weekend between the island nation of Sao Tome e’ Principe and Rwanda, allowing for flights between the two African countries when either national airline is ready to do so.
Also inked were additional bilateral agreements covering a mutual visa waiver, cooperation in tourism, trade, agriculture, and animal resources.
The cooperation between the two countries is an extension of Rwanda’s deliberate expansion of friendly relations in Africa and follows in the footsteps of similar deals signed in the recent past with Morocco – a country which re-entry into the African Union Rwanda supported greatly – and also with Djibouti and Mozambique, also Portuguese-speaking, among others.
Rwanda has in recent years positioned itself as one of Africa’s leading M.I.C.E hubs with added hotel capacity in Kigali and the opening last year of the new Kigali Convention Centre while also putting national airline RwandAir into position to commence intercontinental flights for the first time in its history when launching Mumbai on April 3.
A sizeable Rwandan destination has just returned from the world’s largest international tourism trade fair, ITB, and members of the delegation commented favorably on interest levels, business conducted, and growing demand for Rwanda holidays, although 2 were outspoken in condemning the strike at Berlin’s two airports as damaging the image of Germany around the world.
