Peru hotel gone with landslide

The La Hacienda hotel in the town of Lircay, Peru, completely slid off a cliff and into the river Sicra.

Mid-week, heavy rains began and continued for 10 straight hours, causing the cliff edge above the river to erode. Hotel management evacuated all guests, seeing the situation was a disaster waiting to happen.

This 50-room hotel was built in Colonial times and was 200 years old, but now it no longer exists. The Huancavelia region is enduring the heavy rains, as other buildings in town have also been either destroyed or damaged. Landslides are also causing roadblocks.
