His name is Philip Stamm. He is the General Manager of the Hyatt Centric Times Square New York hotel.
Together with a GM who truly cares, and location, location, location, the result is a winning combination for a hotel, especially if the location is a half a block from what the world knows as the “center of the world” – Times Square.

eTN Publisher Juergen Steinmetz recently stayed at the hotel arriving at 7 in the morning. The hotel was completely sold out the night before, and the front desk staff called in some cleaning staff early to get a room ready for him. At the same time, he was invited to a delicious breakfast in the hotel restaurant. Now that’s a staff any GM would be proud of. Philip says on his Linkedin profile: “When you love your team, they love you back.” And this translates to happy hotel guests.
The breakfast was unique to most – salmon and bagels. How much more typical New York could it get? The only item needing improvement was the coffee. The hotel had a traditional espresso machine, which was great, but the coffee quality needed improvement.
Philip Stamm reached out to Steinmetz personally and responded to his coffee comments: “Thank you so much for the specific recommendations, which I have already dispatched to my team to further investigate.”
The hotel has a well-equipped, 24-hour fitness center. What may be considered a bit unusual would be the lack of a blood pressure machine. “I saw this at Hyatt Hotels in Japan, and it’s a great idea. US-based hotels should learn from Japan,” Steinmetz said.
The contemporary room layout is convenient for business travelers who use a desk for their laptop, and the views are fantastic. And when it’s time to rest, guests at Hyatt hotels everywhere always love Hyatt’s Grand Beds.
