Puerto Rico Tourism: St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort after Hurricane Maria and $ 60 million from Marriott

There is good news for Puerto Rico Tourism today, and many can’t wait until October. This is what the St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort posted on its Facebook on November 22, 2017:

Due to Hurricane Maria, The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort is currently closed. The safety of our guests and associates is always a top priority and there are no reported injuries at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this storm.

Almost a year later, 60 million Dollars invested this Marriott branded luxury hotel has welcoming news to share that will give Puerto Rico Tourism a long-awaited push.

The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort in Puerto announced that it will open in October following Hurricane Maria after a $60 million renovation. St. Regis part of the Marriott Group.

The luxury property will launch The Ocean Drive Beachfront Residences, the Atlantic Drive Estates and announce plans for a resort expansion.

The extensive $60 million renovations will touch every guestroom and suite, the Plantation House, the heart of the resort where guests will enjoy The St. Regis Bar and the property’s signature restaurant, the seaside pool and esplanade, and the Iridium spa. Each space and room underwent a ground-up transformation, each redefined and reimagined by celebrated Puerto Rican designer Nono Maldonado together with internationally renowned Hirsch Bedner Associates of San Francisco.

The 139 refurbished rooms and suites now boast a light, modern and organic aesthetic in a contemporary and residential setting. The design is inspired by the property’s surrounding sea, sand and foliage, and details include a tranquil color palette of shades of whites and light blues that beautifully compliment ocean and lush tropical garden views, as well as custom furniture pieces such as a glass bar cabinet, evoke an inviting and luxurious home.  The new modern and light design is also seen in the Plantation House, a two-story building which greets guest upon arrival, offers an unspoiled view of the two-mile stretch of private beach and is home to The St. Regis Bar featuring The Long Awaited Voyage, a mural by Puerto Rican artist Arnaldo Roche Rabell that has been restored following the storms.

The property is also announcing the launch of an $85 million beachfront, ultra-luxury residential development, The Ocean Drive Residences. Comprising of 30 luxurious condominium residences in three beachfront buildings, The Ocean Drive Beachfront Residences at The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort will offer three and four bedroom residences and penthouse models.  The first building is under development to be completed by June 2019.  The property will additionally debut The Atlantic Drive Estates, a collection of coastal home sites located in a prime location just west of The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort and will announce plans for a $30 million resort expansion to the resort.  Occupying a secluded stretch of land, the expansion will add 60 oceanfront rooms to the hotel’s inventory.

Located on a former coconut plantation and situated between the El Yunque National Forest and Espíritu Santo River State Preserve, The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort is set on 483 pristine acres and it is the only Gold-certified Audubon Signature Sanctuary in Puerto Rico as well as rated AAA Five Diamond. The property is a short 30-minute drive from the vibrant town of Old San Juan and the Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport.
