Rainbow Airlines eyeing Johannesburg route

After making its inaugural flight from Harare to Victoria Falls on January 26, Rainbow has now given the clearest indication yet that services to Johannesburg will be launched in the space of the next few days.

The new start-up airline currently serves Victoria Falls three times a week and intends to also fly three times a week to Johannesburg – every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday.

It is understood that a second Bombardier CRJ100 is due to join the fleet before the middle of the year to then expand flights to both destinations. Applications for flights into the wider region are pending including services to Durban, Cape Town, Lubumbashi / Kinshasa, Maputo and Nairobi.

Domestic flights were also mentioned as a target, with Kariba and Bulawayo among others.

The new airline is reportedly 100 percent Zimbabwean-owned and the CEO of the airline is Mr. Ed Berry, who is based in Harare.
