Robust growth continues in Nepal for June 2018

According to the Department of Immigration, a total of 65,159 international tourists visited Nepal in June 2018, with a healthy increment of 16.4% as compared to the arrival figures of June 2017. With this, the arrival figures in January – June period reached 520,014; an increase of 13% over the same period in 2017.

The arrivals from India grew by 18.8% in June in comparison to the figures of same month in 2017. Similarly, the overall arrivals from the SAARC countries registered a positive growth of 28.1% over the same month last year.

Visitor arrivals from China continue to soar as in the previous months and grew by 34% in June in comparison to the arrivals in the same month last year. Arrivals from Asia (other than SAARC) have also recorded positive growth of 23.6%. Likewise, the visitors from Thailand and Malaysia to Nepal increased by 206.7% and 31.2% respectively. However, the arrivals from South Korea decreased by 31.4% in comparison with the arrivals from the same month, last year.

An overall increase of 9.6% in June has been recorded from European market as compared to the same months last year. Germany and Spain gained 27.5% and 22.7% of increment respectively. However, the arrivals from the France declined by 13.6 %.

Tourist arrivals from Australia and New Zealand have also increased by 5.7% and 1.5% respectively in June 2018 as compared to the figures of 2017. Likewise, visitors from USA and Canada have also grown by 15.3% and 20.7% respectively in June 2018.

The sustained growth in international arrivals to Nepal in first half months of 2018 inferred that the concerted efforts of Nepal Tourism Board together with Government of Nepal and the private sector in positioning Nepal in the international markets as an attractive and top-notch destination amongst international visitors and travel trade are well reflected from the increasing trend of visitor arrivals.
