San Francisco Marriott Marquis’ Drew Tenerio receives Marriott International’s “Awards of Excellence” honor

San Francisco Marriott Marquis, the iconic South of Market hotel, is proud to announce that its longtime employee, Drew Tenerio, was one of just 10 exceptional Marriott International associates across the globe to receive the J. Willard Marriott Award of Excellence (AOE) at Marriott International’s annual Awards of Excellence gala held recently in Washington, DC. Since its creation in 1987, Marriott International’s Awards of Excellence program has honored the company’s most outstanding employees for their exemplary achievements, character, dedication, effort and perseverance.

“Drew is a hospitality extraordinaire,” said San Francisco Marriott Marquis’ General Manager, Mike Kass. “He’s an exceptional employee and industry advocate who truly possesses a spirit to serve and we are so lucky to have him in our team.”

Tenerio began his career at the Burlingame Marriott Hotel in 1986 as a restaurant server. Over the course of the past 33 years, he has worked for twelve Marriott hotels and has been with San Francisco Marriott Marquis since 1999.

Tenerio is a passionate community advocate. In addition to receiving his Award of Excellence from Marriott, Tenerio has been honored with the Community Spirit Award by The Volunteer Center of SF and the Tapestry of Life Award by Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly. He volunteers for many nonprofit organizations, including St. Anthony’s Dining Room, Children’s Miracle Network, Project Open Hand, Project Homeless Connect, Coastal Cleanup, Salvation Army and Hotel Heroes.

“To our guests, he is an ambassador of hospitality; to colleagues he is a friend and role model; to the community, he’s a remarkably giving person,” said Kass. “He really represents the brand’s core values: to put people first, to act with integrity, to embrace change, and to pursue excellence.”
