Silicon Valley Tech executive becomes CTO for Bidroom hotel platform

Maurizio Tripi has joined the Board of Directors of Bidroom – the no-commission hotel platform – to speed up the company’s technology innovation as the new Chief Technology Officer.

Scalability and flexibility are key for 2019

Using his 25 years of technology experience, Mr. Tripi is evolving the Bidroom platform with a rapid scale-up, keeping the flexibility to continue to challenge the market. “Our first step is to transform “IT” into “Engineering” by introducing the best technologies available today – Cloud Native Applications, Microservices, Big Data Analytics, AI, and DevSecOps practices – all managed with agile processes. Bidroom has a huge growth potential ahead and I am here to do what I love the most: scaling the product and its technology to perform with millions of users and supporting outstanding business agility” – says Maurizio Tripi, Bidroom’s CTO.

To achieve that, he set a milestone of a 300% expansion of the engineering team before 2020. He also wants to shift the perspective from “platform management” into more of a Product Management focused service development, to keep the company’s product offering ahead of the competition.

The addition of a brand-new CTO to Bidroom’s senior ranks is yet another growth step for the new Board of Directors that strives to reach over 1 million active users by 2020.

A CTO with a Silicon Valley mindset

Originally from Italy, Tripi (49) has spent many years in Silicon Valley, California, where he plunged into the technology ecosystem. He was an active part of several ventures as an entrepreneur, investor, and strategic advisor, among them he founded Real Contacts – an AI-based reputation system for better relationship-building. Previously, he served as Vice President of Innovation & Consulting for Herzum, a consulting company headquartered in Chicago, USA; he also co-founded “Agilengineering”, one of the first consulting companies active in the agile methodologies field, of which he has always been a fervent advocate since the late 90s.

Mr. Tripi is a thought leader in the Software Engineering field and a recognized international CxO consultant. He led digital transformation for organizations in the wholesale, aviation, telecommunications, finance, defense, and government industries by introducing innovative approaches in software technology to improve quality and efficiency. In 2017, he was granted the title of the Senior Member of the Association of Computing Machinery.

Original name in the hotel booking game

In 2019, Bidroom continues its international expansion fueled by a new funding round of €15 million raised in November 2018. It is the world’s first no-commission membership-based hotel platform that claims to be a fairer alternative to commission-based websites like Booking.

With +120,000 hotels from 128 countries connected, the company secures its own travel niche with the ambition to have 1 million active users by 2020. Bidroom offers hoteliers direct bookings at no commission under an original “revenue first – pay later” model while travelers enjoy up to 25% lower hotel prices as compared to other providers.

Michael Ros, Bidroom’s Co-Founder and COO thinks that: “The addition of a greatly experienced technology executive to our management team is another confident step for our next-level growth strategy.”

When asked for his impression of Bidroom, Maurizio Tripi commented: “I am very excited to be a part of it. In my experience, I’ve rarely seen other scale-ups with such a mix of an outstanding team, a disruptive business model, and effective execution.”
