Survey: Car rental rates triple for Thanksgiving

Travelers who need a rental car to get home to their family over Thanksgiving can expect to pay 200% more than usual. That’s one of the findings of a new survey conducted by CheapCarRental.net.

The survey compared car rental rates for 30 destinations in the United States for the period spanning November 23 to 27, 2016. The biggest airport associated with each respective city served as the pick-up and drop-off location.

In Atlanta, the cheapest available car will cost $91 per rental day over the long Thanksgiving weekend. That figure represents an increase of 212% compared to regular rates during the month of November. Only New York City is more expensive, at a daily rental rate of $101 for the most affordable car.

Pittsburgh, PA rounds out the Top 3 podium at an average rate of $79 per day, while Las Vegas, Nev. reports the biggest relative price increase. In the gambling capital, Thanksgiving car renters will have to pay $70 per day. That’s almost 300% more than they would usually spend for the same rented vehicle.
