Tanzania tourism exhibition for the new generation: SITE

The fifth edition of Tanzania’s Swahili International Tourism Expo (SITE) opened today with a high level of participation of tourism and travel trade stakeholders, executives, and hosted buyers from 60 countries.

About  500 international and local exhibitors, as well as 440 hosted buyers and international media outlets from Africa, North and South America, Europe, India, and China are expected to participate the 3-day exhibition which will run up to Sunday this weekend.

SITE has attracted a series of seminars and travel trade meetings among participants, mostly from China which is an upcoming tourist market source that Tanzania is targeting to capture.

A team of Chinese journalists are among participants of the fifth SITE exhibition, among them online and special writers in Chinese language newspapers and television and radio stations.

A Hosted Buyer program that will showcase the travel possibilities in, within, and outside Tanzania has been planned. A series of seminars have been organized by global tour and tourism experts on special topics.

Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) Managing Director Devota Mdachi said that the SITE exhibition has been organized with the format of a travel and trade, focusing on topical tourism, sustainability, conservation, and other market-related issues.

Conference tourism is the other element which the exhibition targets, looking to attract regional and international gatherings.

Taking place at Mlimani City Conference Centre in  Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s commercial capital, the exhibition targets inbound and outbound travel to Africa to make and develop their business in tourism, Mdachi said.

She added that SITE stands as a good platform for tourism promotion to create vast opportunities for small entrepreneurs who will showcase and sell their products and services.

The exhibition has been organized as part of TTB’s objective to enhance and promote Tanzania as a choice destination for holidays, meetings,  incentives, conventions, and exhibitions, she added.

The Board (TTB) has cooperated with various partners and sponsors to organize the SITE event which is now on stage.

“We believe that SITE will see the convergence of renowned exhibitors, hosted buyers, travel media, speakers, and delegates from around the world to Tanzania and that the exhibition will serve as a platform which will allow them to showcase their products and services, network, establish new business partnerships and strengthen existing ones, and get to know the latest trends of the international tourism industry,” she told eTN.

SITE is as well targeting to promote Tanzania as a preferred tourist destination to link Small and Medium Tourism Enterprises (SMEs) with the international tourist market.

“Tourism SMEs are, therefore, advised to seize this opportunity through SITE to lobby for new market links with other regional and international tourist markets,” she added.

Besides taking advantage of the networking and business and learning opportunities during the exhibition, the organizers are looking to attract participants to visit leading wildlife parks and other tourist-attractive sites including Mount Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro Crater, the Serengeti, Selous Game Reserve, and the island of Zanzibar.

“On behalf of the Tanzania Tourist Board, once again, a warm welcome to you all to Tanzania and a successful participation in SITE,” Mdachi concluded.
