Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport open after earthquake

The International Airport in Anchorage, Alaska, USA was closed for inbound and outbound traffic after a powerful 7.0 earthquake in the area.

The control tower was evacuated and runways are not operational until checked further.

A tweet posted by airport authorities at 10.20 am Alaska time said the airport is open, and TSA confirmed screening stations are open. It’s not clear if this means runway operation is back and running.

At the same time, this tweet was posted most news channels and passengers on the ground tweeted: “There is a ground stop at Anchorage Airport because the earthquake,the tower was evacuated to an equipped vehicle off-airport so they can continue to control flights. Some flights are landing at this time.”
