The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Jazzy Joburg Market

As part of its exuberant Tourism Month calendar, Joburg Tourism is proud to once again be collaborating with the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Music Festival, taking place at the Sandton Convention Centre from 27 to 30 September 2018.

Joburg Tourism will be utilizing The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz to partner with SMMEs for the first time when it launches the Jazzy Joburg Market at Nelson Mandela Square. This this is where the market comes together with jazz to give visitors a great welcome to Joburg – reinforcing Joburg Tourism’s #Welcome2Jozi campaign which aims to emphasise Joburg’s positioning that it is more than a stopover destination and that there’s more to Joburg than business.

The market will be open from 15h30 to 20h00 (Thursday to Saturday), while on Sunday the market is open from 10h00 until 17h00 at the Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton. The Jazzy Joburg Night Market is the daily build-up to the main Joy of Jazz Festival taking place at the Sandton Convention Centre – with food stalls, arts and crafts exhibitors and all the trimmings to be expected from a night market in a creative space; an outstanding opportunity for developing artists to share their music and talents at a fun-filled night market.

This is a special initiative, being launched this week by Joburg Tourism, as part of the City’s Department of Economic Development plans. “The SMME developmental and partnership aspect of our work is very important to our ambitious economic growth targets of 5% for Johannesburg,” says Cllr Leah Knott, MMC for Economic Development. “The night market is a strategic move to give SMME’s specializing in food services, arts, crafts, and design, access to a new marketplace in order to grow their businesses.”

The Jazzy Joburg Night Market, in the hub of the hustle and bustle of the City aims to attract customers (business people or tourists or employees) from the busy city to come sit, unwind, relax, indulge in tasty treats and socialise in a magical JAZZ market space. As music is an important element which complements the tourism offering and brings people from all walks of life together, the market will bring visitors a wide range of vendors. From authentic arts and crafts, clothing, makeup and beauty products to music and food – patrons can expect an all-around shopping experience. The market is open free to all members of the public.

The Joy of Jazz organisers have lined up a three day programme for the market, featuring the likes of Zano, Nelisiwe Sibiya of Lockdown fame, Sobantwana, Aus Tebza, Vuyo Tyolo, as well as the Standard Bank National Youth Band. The impeccable musical talents of these youngsters will be supplemented by Dutch band – The New York Round Midnight Band, also billed to perform at the main festival.
