On Earth Day this year, the Green Globe-certified The Tryall Club celebrated its second-year anniversary of the establishment of the Tryall Forest Reserve, the only private reserve on the island of Jamaica.
Tryall Club Green Team members held tree planting events on April 22, which aim to help mitigate the damage from deforestation. Saplings propagated on the property were planted at the Tryall Water Shed Area and within the Sandy Bay Primary School Environmental Club playgrounds. It is hoped that the Junior Environmental Team will work together with support from Tryall and the Jamaica Forestry Department to foster tree planting exercises in other parts of the parish that highlight the importance of fighting climate change.
Shaku Ramcharan, Environmental Manager at The Tryall Club said, “In the future, we hope that others who have been inspired to protect vulnerable ecosystems by getting involved in projects on Earth Day will start their own local community tree planting projects that will help sustain the world.”
