Tourism flow in Moscow increased by 10%

The Department of Sport and Tourism of Moscow held a press conference Tourism Potential of Moscow. The FIFA World Cup 2018 as an accelerator of global changes on September 11th. Nikolay Gulyaev, the Head of the Department of Sport and Tourism of Moscow, told about tourism flow dynamics, its relation to the Football World Cup 2018 and announced the international tourism forum for foreign tour operators and representatives of the mass media.

In 2017 there were 21,6 millions of tourist arrivals in Moscow. In 2018 the tourism flow in Moscow is expected to increase by at least 10%. The Football World Cup 2018 has shown a new side of Moscow to a large amount of guests. In total, during the World Cup 4,5 million people visited Moscow, 2,3 million of which were foreigners and 2.2 million were citizens of Russia. About 60% of them were football fans.

“One of the main objectives after the Football World Cup will be to effectively use the remaining infrastructure and the Cup’s image effect to increase the tourist flows and tourism revenues in the future,” said the Head of the Department of Sport and Tourism of Moscow Nikolay Gulyaev.

This and other issues will be discussed this December during the first Moscow international tourism forum for foreign tour operators and representatives of the mass media  which is intended to become one of the leading world platforms for exchange of experience in this field.
