Two killed, nine wounded in Jakarta bus terminal twin bombing

Two bombs have gone off near a bus station in eastern Jakarta, leaving a police officer and a suspected bomber dead, Indonesian police say.

The two blasts occurred approximately five minutes apart in Kampung Melayu on Wednesday evening, a police statement said.

It added that several people, including police officers, were injured in the bombings. A hospital official said two policemen and a civilian were receiving treatment while a TV report said five people had been injured.

The cause of the blasts at the Kampung Melayu terminal, frequented by minibuses and buses, was not immediately clear.

Last year, a bombing and shooting attack, claimed by the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group, left four attackers and four civilians dead in the Indonesian capital.

At least 400 Indonesians have reportedly joined the ranks of Daesh in the two conflict-plagued Middle Eastern countries of Iraq and Syria. Dozens of the extremists have returned to Indonesia.

Indonesian law enforcement agencies have arrested hundreds of militants during a sustained crackdown in the past few years.
