UK Travel Warnings for winter season

Ahead of the cold weather of winter when Brits are likely to seek vacations at a sunny destination, The Foreign Office has updated its UK Travel Warnings advice for several countries, including favorite holiday spots like Spain, France, and Portugal.

Here’s the latest travel advice for some of the top destinations for holidaymakers as reported by My London. This is just an overview of the popular warm holiday destinationssee full travel advice here.

Spain

Severe rain and thunderstorms with the potential for flash flooding are forecast across Spain (especially in Catalonia, The Balearic Islands, Basque Country, Cantabria and Asturias).

There could be damage to property, infrastructure and travel disruption. Please follow the advice of the local authorities.

There have been large gatherings of people and demonstrations in some parts of Barcelona and other areas of the Catalonia region in relation to political developments there.

Some demonstrations have become violent, with protesters causing damage to property and disruption to transport.

Further gatherings and demonstrations are likely to take place – and demonstrations intended to be peaceful can escalate and turn confrontational.

If you’re in an area where demonstrations are taking place, you should remain vigilant, follow the advice of local authorities and move away quickly to a safe place if there are signs of disorder.

France

There are also demonstrations you need to be aware of happening in parts of France.

Some protests linked to the yellow vest (gilets jaunes) movement continue across the country, generally taking place on Saturdays.

If demonstrations do turn violent, a heavy police or gendarmerie presence is to be expected.

The Foreign Office has said: “Motorists travelling through France may continue to experience some delays or blockages caused by local demonstrators – you should drive with caution as protesters may be present on roads, motorways and toll booths.

“In all cases, you should avoid demonstrations wherever possible and follow the advice of the local authorities.”

Portugal

Many Brits traveled to Portugal for the Rangers FC Europa League match against Porto FC on Thursday, October 24.

Those travelling to Porto should check out the Foreign Office’s dedicated advice page for advice over the duration of their stay.

USA

The Foreign Office has warned of the adverse weather typical for the USA at this time of year.

They said: “Atlantic hurricane season normally runs from June 1 to November 30. The Pacific hurricane season runs from May 15 to November 30.”
