UNWTO: Zimbabwe tourism minister continues global campaign outreach

The World Travel Market (WTM) London just concluded and lobbying for the UNWTO secretary General by  the Hon. Walter Mzembi continued. The Zimbabwe Minister of  Tourism is currently the only candidate coming forward with his ambition to take the position of the next Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).  Mzembi shifted from a local leader joggling  within the framework of the Mugabe government  to a global celebrity with fresh ideas to bring UNWTO to a new chapter.

Mzembi is liked among tourism leaders from around the globe. UNWTO was a lot more for him than promoting Zimbabwe as a safe and welcoming tourism destination.  Reaching out to PATA  for example shows how the minister is thinking out of the box to bring new opportunities for Zimbabwe and deepen the bond between UNWTO and PATA at the same time.

The Honorable Lord Howell of Gildford. Chairman, House of Lords International Relations Committee & President of the Royal Commonwealth Society, at the House of Lords met with Mzembi at the sideline of WTM. Discussed were matters of mutual interest to both the UK and Zimbabwe, and rapprochement between the two. The UK politician took a keen interest in Mzembi’s international elective ambitions.

Right after World Travel Market Mzembi flew to Morocco to attendat COP22 . It again shows his commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism. The acting Minister of Tourism for Morocco, and substantive Minister of Agriculture & Fisheries, Aziz AKHANNOUCH and the Moroccan Minister of Finance met with Mzembi at COP22 in Marrakech.

This was after the launch of the Morocco inspired Declaration and Charter on Inclusive , Responsible and Sustainable Tourism, conceived and concluded under the Zimbabwe Chairmanship of the UNWTO Commission for Africa, and 60th CAF in Cote D Ivore . There is a major interest in collaboration in Tourism, according to Mzembi.
